The Good Ship Announce: 'La Petite Mort' – Farewell Shows, May 2015!
WedNESDAY, 24 MarCH, 2014
Today we bring you the news that our little crew has made the amicable decision to chart journey's end. The Good Ship will soon be no more.
We can let you know that no-one has had an artistic tantrum, there have been no fisticuffs and no-one is dumping the band to finally accept the offer of a multi-million dollar record deal as a solo artist. Not even Geoff.
Over the last 6 (and a bit) years we have navigated through the beginning, the middle and now towards its end, and we are so proud of what we have achieved. 3 albums, 10 singles, 9 video clips, over 150 shows and the most loyal and loving audience and following imaginable. We got to play all over Australia and enjoyed so many amazing shows and festivals. We also got to go overseas, playing a successful run of shows in Canada. We even wrote a musical and got to perform it three times in a beautiful theatre.
And we are so thankful. To have the opportunities and experiences we have enjoyed has enriched us beyond measure as musicians and as people. Most of all, we are thankful to all of YOU who listened to us, cheered us on, came to gigs, partied with us, believed in us and shared the music, the shows, your ears, hearts and minds. So many friendships have been forged around The Good Ship – both within the band and between the lovely mob that grew up around us. All seven of us will cherish the support and love you have shown us forever.
We are not instantly disappearing though… this is no hit & run, we will not leave you in the lurch! We are rallying ourselves (and a few special guests) to give The Good Ship not one, but two fitting send-offs. And so, we bring you "The Good Ship: La Petite Mort" (the little death… it's French and sexual…) – the first petite mort in Melbourne and the final petite mort in our beloved hometown of Brisbane.
At both shows, we'll be joined by our great friends THE BON SCOTTS – we have been playing shows with them since 2010, so it is only fitting that they join us for the send-offs. In Brisbane, we also have the irresistible NICK WATSON & THE BAWDY DICKS, along with some very special guests who will do a few cameo spots with us.

'The Seven Seas' returns to Brisbane Powerhouse for ONE NIGHT ONLY.
Monday, 07 OCT, 2013
The Good Ship return to Brisbane Powerhouse to present their acclaimed theatrical show 'The Seven Seas'. Since a sold-out season at the Visy Theatre in February 2013, the band have recorded the 10 songs from the show, to be realeased on November 15th as their third album.
The new album, 'The Seven Seas' started out from a song of the same name from second release 'O' Exquisite Corpse'. With help from an ARTS QLD grant, the life story of the song's protagonist is told as a 10 part song cycle, incorporating all the usual Good Ship themes: love, death and revenge.
The band brought in new collaborators Kat Henry (director), Andrew Meadows (lighting designer) and Sandro Colarelli (actor/singer) to turn the songs and script into a music theatre piece.
Recorded at Gasworks Studios with Josh Tuck, ''The Seven Seas' contains the vocals of four lead singers. Katherine Cooke swaps trumpet for microphone, making her lead vocal debut on new single 'World Spin Round'. Special guest Sandro Colarelli takes the lead on show finale 'Misunderstood'.
See the World Spin Round... and our new video clip!
Friday, 04 October, 2013
The Good Ship is very proud to present our latest film clip and single 'World Spin Round', from our upcoming album 'The Seven Seas'.
'World Spin Round' is the first single from The Good Ship's third studio album: "The Seven Seas" which will be released in November 2013. It features crewmember Kat Cooke's debut as a lead vocalist.
Expanded from the band's song of the same name, The Seven Seas tells of a boy seeking to exact revenge upon the sea for the deaths of his father and brother by conquering her in all her might. But what will he lose to do so? And why is the storyteller so forthright in telling his tale?
We would also like to take this opportunity to introduce and send out a very special thanks to the incredible Julian Shores for his outstanding performance in this clip. As well as a massive thanks to Stacy and Michelle, for giving so generously, during our Canadian Pozible campaign, earlier this year.

To accompany our Capital Offensive Tour, we offer you our new single, a cover of The Rake's Song, originally by The Decemberists. It's been one of our live favourites for a couple of years now and is probably the most upbeat song ever written about killing your children – it's the one where we keep yelling 'alright, alright, alriiiiight' in the choruses and the Kats Cooke & Ogilvie keep jumping up and down. We have also made a video from various home-movie style clips harvested from all of our phones since 2010 including tour footage from all over Australia as well as our recent trip to Canada. It's all been lovingly edited together by our very own Brett Harris. It's like a little scrapbook of our adventures and we love it, hope you do too.
The Rake's Song was partially recorded during the sessions for O' Exquisite Corpse and finished very recently (in between takes of our new album), it's a non-album single and also a totally free download – grab it here from our Bandcamp page.

O' Exquisite Corpse
Album Out Now!
FRIDAY, 29 JUNE, 2012
We've just completed our second album O' Exquisite Corpse, a work of dark, sweaty, heaving beauty, featuring The Good Ship's trademark blend of sweet melodies and debauched lyrics. The band have managed to create an album steeped in rich harmonies and lush instrumentation, all the while retaining the shambolic glory of their live show.
The album was produced by the band in conjunction with Neil Coombe at The White Room Studios, whose credits include DZ Deathrays, The Go Betweens and the John Steel Singers. It was a difficult and somewhat messy birth, with much of the recording done in loungerooms and bedrooms across Brisbane, before being masterfully brought together by Neil.
The result is 11 songs that range from sugary pop to rollicking country to the darkest balladry. The overwhelmingly dark themes of death, murder, prostitution and the supernatural are tempered by snippets of humour and light.
The Seven Seas opens to SOLD OUT audiences at the Powerhouse
Friday, 08 FEB, 2013
"The show was a visual and aural treat, deeply signifying the adroitness of the band to willingly venture outside of the conventional pub gigs, taking their skills to a different level." – Spire Focus
We are pleased to announce that our introduction into performance/musical theatre resulted in a completely sold out development season, with some wonderful reviews from those that came along.
Check out the photos on facebook or read some of the reviews here:
Massive thanks and love to all those involved at every level. We couldn't have done it without you. So... you wanna do it again?

Sin City, Sweet Clip!
Friday, 16 November, 2012
To coincide with the release of our third single from the album O' Exquisite Corpse, The Good Ship got greased up and let loose to film the clip for sultry lil' Sin City Sweetheart.
It tells the semi-tall tale of Mr Harris' Las Vegas adventures: crashing honeymoons, forbidden fruits and punctual prostitution... A man so desperate for love within a town of unfathomable pleasures, that he falls for an ageing, broken, one-armed, one-eyed woman—who steals his heart as quickly as she does his wallet.

Seven Seas – Film Clip
Thursday, 05 APRIL, 2012
It's been nearly two years since THE GOOD SHIP stormed the beaches with their debut album Avast! Wretched Sea.
That album saw them receive rave reviews from around the world, a slew of festival spots including Woodford and an invited performance at Brisbane Festival, and a legion of dedicated fans. Now they are nearing completion of their second full- length, due for release mid 2012. To get the ball rolling they're launching the first single "Seven Seas" with an East Coast tour throughout April.
Seven Seas is sung from the perspective of a sea dog locked in a prison cell for murder, not regretting his actions but only lamenting the fact that he cannot reach his beloved ocean. The song is typical of the band's musical approach, with an upbeat and jaunty feel hiding a dark and morbid sentiment.
Produced by:Cartel Film Production Director: Davros El Davros Producer: Katherine Cooke DOP: Tristan Houghton and Davros El Davros Edit: Tristan Houghton Online and VFX: Davros El Davros Styling: The Good Ship
Won't sombody please, please, please, take me to the Seven Seas?
Thursday, 05 April, 2012
Although no longer available as a free download, our first single, Seven Seas can still be streamed online from our SOUNDCLOUD page:
